  • Attend the 2016 Manitoba Nature Summit’s Annual General Meeting at St. Vital Park. It will be held on Tuesday, April 19th. The campfire will start at 6:00 pm the meeting will start at 7:00 pm. Come meet the folks behind Manitoba Nature Summit Inc. and give your feedback on our plans for the future. Don’t forget to vote on your way to the park! Children welcome.
  • Now’s the time to start planning for the Two Weeks Outdoors Challenge. If you click on the Manitoba Nature Action Collaborative for Children link on Discovery Children Centre’s webpage you can sign up to participate in the challenge and download the pamplet for the T.W.O. Challenge.

Outdoor Learning: Making It Work
We cannot overlook the importance for educational purposes of the close and intimate acquaintance got with nature at first hand, with real things and materials, with the actual processes of their manipulations, and the knowledge of their specialties and uses. (Dewey)

Exploring, constructing, classifying, and creating are experiences which thrive in outdoor learning.Researchers from Dewey to Capra have advocated for education that happens outside the confines of a school building.The outdoors is a free resource for all, no matter where your school is located.

What are the barriers to taking students out doors? How can outdoor learning be supported?

This one day workshop is a place to approach these questions and to experience outdoor learning.After an interactive panel discussion, participants will have the opportunity to engage in activities led by the panelists.

This day will also provide an opportunity to link with others who share an interest in outdoor learning and build networks.

This workshop is presented by Manitoba Education and Advanced Learning and University of Winnipeg. All the registration information is located on the following two forms:
